MT – Business critical was the overarching theme this year, and in relation to this, it really stood out to me the push for more powerful System-On-Chip, or lightweight media player devices that are finally coming around to competing with the traditional Windows systems in terms of performance, whilst out-performing Windows in terms of reliability. The phrase ‘self-healing’ was used a number of times, which means new devices are much more sufficient in keeping themselves healthy and running, minimising any downtime, and meeting that ‘Business Critical’ requirement.
Looking at different digital signage software – we pride ourself at Beyond for being ‘software agnostic’ and in turn picking what’s best for each individual clients needs. So it was nice to get hands-on with two digital signage software’s that were new to me, to consider them for future use-cases with our clients. This has followed on since DSS with me having much deeper dives into both software’s, trying to replicate our previous solutions within these software’s to put them through their paces and see if they’re up to our standard and whether we should include them in our library of software’s that we sell to customers.
LF – The Digital Signage Summit is acknowledged as one of the leading strategy conferences in Digital signage. It’s a great opportunity also a privilege to listen to the signage experts, thought leaders, and suppliers in my industry.
I personally find the experience amazing and insightful, It delivers year on year. I always leave the conference inspired and motivated. It also reassures me, that as an Operations Director/Signage Consultant I’m giving the best up to date advice to Beyond Digital clients. It also allows me, to speak to the world leading manufactures within the industry, I’m able to gain advice and knowledge on what the best way to utilise certain products in client environments.
LF – In particular this year, I was interested in the enhancement and changes in LED, how the technology has evolved and adapted over the years. Some very interesting points being made. Including the environmental considerations in the production and decommissioning of older products, component parts being utilised into new manufactured LED, the quality of the product, enhancing in both quality and reliability, and also affordability. LED is a great technology to utilise at the right client site. It offers a different look and the boundaries of this adaptable technology are constantly being tested and surpassed, In particular the new transparent and curved variations were my favourite.
The reassurance and education that DSS gives, has enabled me to provide consultancy to Greggs. Specifically on how best to promote their brand using Digital Signage at their prestige’s site in London, Leicester Square. Even though this project had many elements of signage, my favourite, in particular, was the Transparent LED facing the actual square that we installed – I look forward to using new tech like this, influenced from the ideas at the summit and bringing them straight to Beyond customers.
MT – My favourite idea from the summit was definitely the new touchless touch technology shown – this idea sparked into life during the pandemic to address using a touch screen while avoiding spreading germs and COVID. It had a very ‘gimmicky’ and ‘concept’ feel at first, but getting hands on with this at DSS, you can see it’s not far off being something very usable, so I expect to start seeing this appearing in a lot more use-cases very quickly.
